Tweeters,
Tina and I spent the weekend birding close to home. We checked out a couple
of new areas.
Tambark Park (sandwiched between Mill Creek and Bothell) opened this summer
after a couple of years in development. They left a good chunk of the
habitat intact with nice paved and gravel trails and heavy duty foot bridges
over the creek. We found a nice selection of residents. Tina thinks that
she heard a White-throated Sparrow to the east of the playground; but, we
could never get it to pop out for a view.
We better explored Martha Lake Airport Park. It had a lot of sparrows,
juncos, and woodpeckers on the trail along the east edge and in the
undeveloped area to the north. We didn't find anything rare; but, it was
surprisingly birdy.
Today we chased the Marymoor Clay-colored Sparrow - tick. Then we headed up
to Crescent Lake Wild Life Area near Monroe. We spent most of the day
walking the edges of the oxbow lake. We found three WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS
off the north entrance. We crossed over the oxbow lake, and took a left.
They were in a crab-apple tree with a horde of robins and other sparrows.
Good birding,
Rick
