Am fortunate to live next door to Magnusen Park and have a chance for frequent boat rides on Lake Washington. Over the years have witnessed first hand the decreasing numbers of Western Grebe each winter. Always a nice surprise to see a single or small group of them.

Well, today on a nice calm lake, about half way between Magnusen Park and Kirkland Marina I saw one group of 90 (I sat for a few minutes and counted them individually. If anything, the actual count will be higher because a few might be diving) and another group of 6. What a nice surprise and hopefully a sign of recovery. About a month or so ago, I started to see a few Western Grebe and even then was thinking this might be a few more seen than usual.

Took a few amateurish pics that I am happy to provide to anyone interested if you contact me by email.
