Hi Tweets

At 1:15 the White Pelican was present on the wooded pond in South Park (at the most common location on John Pushock's map). As you drive south on 99, with the pond on your right, the "shoulder" strip is wide enough to get a car all the way off the roadway. Fortunately, just opposite the pelican's location there was a nice thin spot in the bordering vegetation and I was able to get a decent view from within the car (and a couple of record shots).

The pelican was not showing any signs of distress having the car present, but it was obviously aware of its surroundings. I suspect that if I had been approaching on foot the bird might have left.

The pelican was briefly visible when making the transition to 509 north, but the shoulder here is fairly narrow and with any traffic it probably would not be advisable to try to stop and view it from this location.

Good Birding
