Yesterday Karen and I were doing yard work when a Cooper's Hawk came in search of a meal.? We were amazed at its ability to fly in dense thickets in pursuit of a small bird.? It terrorized two Spotted Towhees that live in the salal and honeysuckle that we have growing over a large, old stump.? It chased another bird into some dense cedar foliage.? We never actually saw it catch its prey, but believe that it may have caught a Mourning Dove when we heard a commotion where some Mourning Doves were feeding on the ground and saw the hawk fly off never to return for the day. The hawk didn't mind our standing and photographing about 30 feet from its perches and flight paths.
