Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 3. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976

Strog storms during the week brought only a few uncommon pelagic sightings.
On October 2 a LAYSAN ALBATROSS was on the ocean just off Silver Point south
of Cannon Beach. The day before a MANX SHEARWATER was with SOOTY SHEARWATERS
passing Cape Arago. By September 30 many dead and dying swallows were
reported from Ridgefield NWR and Fern Ridge Reservoir.

On September 27 an INDIGO BUNTING was at Summer Lake. A BLACK-THROATED-BLUE
WARBLER was at Fields, and a BEWICK?S WREN was near Page Springs Campground
September 26. A possible SEDGE WREN was seen October 2 near the viewing
platform at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

Migrant TURKEY VULTURE kettles were reported during the week from Beaverton
and Eugene. The first SNOW GEESE are now arriving on Sauvie Island. BROWN
PELICANS, HEERMANN?S GULLS, and ELEGANT TERNS continue along the coast with
most at Coos Bay and along the south coast.

On September 29 a PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was at Coos Bay. That day seven
ARCTIC TERNS were at Yaquina Bay. An AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and early DUNLIN
were at the South Jetty of the Columbia River September 30.

A SWAINSON?S HAWK passed over southwest Portland September 26. A PALM
WARBLER was photographed September 26 at the Fernhill Wetlands. On September
30 a HEERMANN?S GULL, five, SURF SCOTERS, and a GREATER SCAUP were at the
Philomath Sewage Ponds. A SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER is now being seen at the
Fern Ridge Reservoir.

On October 1 three SURF SCOTERS were on Suttle Lake in Santiam Pass. At
Wickiup Reservoir September 29 were an ARCTIC TERN, a PARASITIC JAEGER, and
a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER.

That?s it for this week.
