*Alan Knue and I spent several hours at Point No Point yesterday morning. I
was particularly inspired to go after breaking open the just released
?Peterson Reference guide to Seawatching: eastern waterbirds in flight? by
Ken Behrens and Cameron Cox (more on the book below). *

*There were lots of birds on the move and it was great being able to study
so many different species in flight. Big numbers of gulls (2000
Bonaparte?s, 250 Heermann?s, 165 Mew, and 140 California) brought in the
jaegers! We had at least 17 Parasitic Jaegers, including at least 7
juveniles ranging from very dark to very light. *

* *

*We also had a Brown Pelican up high, flying south toward Kingston, and two
Turkey Vultures. *

* *

*In regards to the above referenced seawatching guide, in a word, it?s
outstanding. Its focus is the species that occur in the east, but many if
not most of them also occur here. I?m just barely into it and I think the
scoter section is worth the price alone.*
