Only after I "developed" this photo of the juvenile Cedar Waxwing foraging in my hawthorne did I see its tongue. The paraglossale bone seemed clearly to be acting as a shovel to get that big berry down the hatch. I've never actually seen this in action before, although my Manual of Ornithology (Proctor and Lynch) has a nice diagram of the bone.
