Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 10. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On October 4 a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER was at Pistol River. A PALM WARBLER
was seen October 3 at the Philomath Sewage Ponds. A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was
photographed at Camp Winema, south of Neskowin October 4. Another was at
Siletz Bay the same day.

LAPLAND LONGSPURS were reported from several areas along the coast. On
October 8 a probable CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR was at the South Jetty of
the Columbia River. On October 6 a late BLACK SWIFT was at Siletz Bay.

VARIED THRUSHES are now increasing in the Western Oregon lowlands. Large
Flocks of CACKLING GEESE arrived during the week. SANDHILL CRANE numbers are
now increasing on Sauvie Island. Late TURKEY VULTURE kettles were reported
from Sauvie Island and Clackamas. On October 3 several hundred WHITE
PELICANS left Smith/Bybee Lakes, formed a large kettle, then passed
southward along the Willamette River over mid-town Portland. Several birders
recorded their passage. A late flock of WHITE PELICANS was over Gladstone
October 9.

On October 3 a SWAINSON?S HAWK was at the Fernhill Wetlands. During the
evening of October 6 a FORK-TAILED STORM-PETREL was attracted to lights at
Oregon State University in Corvallis.

On October 6 a FERRUGINOUS HAWK was photographed at the Bonney Butte
HawkWatch Station near Mt. Hood. At the LaGrande Sewage Ponds during the
week were a SURF SCOTER, a GREATER SCAUP, a HERRING GULL, and a COMMON TERN.
