Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday October 17. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On October 16 a female KING EIDER was reported flying southward past Depoe
Bay. A PHAINOPEPLA was reported October 10 from Yachats.

TROPICAL KINGBIRDS were reported during the week at the North Spit of Coos
Bay, Cape Blanco, Langlois, and Yaquina Bay where two are being seen. BROWN
PELICANS continue along the coast. On October 10 over 900 were at the mouth
of the Umpqua River. Early ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS arrived in the state during
the week.

Inland reports of SURF SCOTERS continue east of the Cascades. During the
week 17 were above the John Day Dam, two were on Lost Creek Lake in Jackson
County, one on Tumalo Reservoir, four on Suttle Lake, and nine on Wickiup
Reservoir along with three Pacific Loons.

Up to 20 PALM WARBLERS were reported during the week at Cape Blanco. One was
at Yaquina Bay October 14. On October 15 two NORTHERN SHRIKES were at the
South Jetty of the Siuslaw River. Single LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen during
the week at Depoe Bay and Seaside.

On October 9 a ROSS?S GOOSE was among thousands of CACKLING GEESE along
Lower River Road north of Vancouver. A blue phased ROSS?S GOOSE was at
Smith/Bybee Lakes October 15.

On October 15 a SWAMP SPARROW was at Camp Polk north of Sisters. Another
SWAMP SPARROW was at Hatfield Lake near Bend October 11.
