It has come to our attention that recently there have been a lot of folks visiting the Fisher Slough tidal marsh restoration site for bird watching. While The Nature Conservancy is excited about the interest in this site and its use by birds of all kinds we would like to remind folks that it is private property and not a public access site. The Nature Conservancy and Skagit County Diking District No. 3 own and co-manage the project site. The availability of parking and safe access to the site and cooperation with neighboring landowners' needs were two of several factors that were taken into account when deciding not to allow public access to this site.

The Nature Conservancy understands the importance of public access for the support of conservation and for community members. When possible we allow visitation to our properties and preserves when it can be done so safely and does not compromise conservation goals. For instance, our Port Susan Bay Preserve is available for bird and other wildlife watching through making reservations. Details about visiting our Port Susan Bay Preserve can be found here<http://www.nature.org/ourinitiatives/regions/northamerica/unitedstates/washington/placesweprotect/port-susan-bay.xml>. There are other public birding sites in the area including Wylie Slough<http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/wildlife_areas/skagit/Headquarters%20(Skagit)/>, Big Ditch<http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/water_access/30492/>, English Boom<http://wildliferecreation.org/our-campaigns/wwrp-projects/projects/English_Boom_Waterfront_Trail>, Iverson Spit<http://seattletimes.com/html/outdoors/2011603438_nwwwalkabout15.html>, and Leque Island.<http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/wildlife_areas/skagit/Leque%20Island/> Thank you for reading this post and respecting private property while pursuing your passion of bird watching.
