Hiall,

The tough duty of record-keeping requires me to ask a favor for those
reporting the Eastern Wood Peweeafter last Friday the 31st of August. To
my knowledge, that is the last date it was heard vocalizing. It would be
great if folks reporting the pewee after Friday could submit reports on
why they felt this was the Eastern and not a migrant Western. If by
chance folks heard it after Friday, or hear it on any upcoming visits,
that would be great to know. Obviously there is a very good chance it
has hung around, yet has gone silent. But, I would also point out that
the lovely Trail's End Farm is a wonderfulmigrant trap and would be an
excellent stopover spot for a migrant Western Wood Pewee. Despite some
previous suggestions that this vocalizing pewee was obviously different
from our expected Western Wood Pewee, I think a quick review of any
field guide would give one a great reality check on this identification
challenge. If anyone has photos of a pewee from this location from this
past weekend it would be great to see them. I do think there were some
subtle differences that indeed maybe able to give us a better idea of
the actual end date on this most excellent new record for our state.
Kudos to Matt Yawney for a great find, and an outstanding effort to
document it on his first encounter. I still shake my head in amazement.

Cheers and good birding,
