Susan and I drove up to Stevenson, in Skamania County, for dinner tonight and checked a few spots for shorebirds on the way. At Skamania Landing I walked out from the single lane bridge to Doetsch Pond on Beacon Rock State Park where I was surprised to see many large bags of bentonite clay staged around the new pond and a pump running in the pond to drain it. Obviously they are in the process of sealing the bottom of this pond but this weekend the pond will present a rare in the county mudflat. I did see 4 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 3 LEAST SANDPIPERS there tonight. At the mouth of Rock Creek, in the Skamania County Fairgrounds in Stevenson, we spotted 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, county bird #246 for me. Wilson Cady
