Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday September 12. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 503-233-3976.

On September 7 a bright CANADA WARBLER was photographed at Hatfield Lake
near Bend. A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was seen September 10 at the Winchuck
River Mouth south of Brookings. Another was at Arizona Beach Wayside south
of Port Orford September 11.

Shorebird movement continue strong with many PECTORAL SANDPIPERS being
reported. Sparrows are now arriving including GOLDEN-CROWNED, WHITE-CROWNED,
FOX, and LINCOLN?S SPARROWS. PIPITS are also increasing. Large numbers of
HEERMANN?S GULLS and ELEGANT TERNS are still being found along the coast.

On September 10 an EASTERN KINGBIRD was in Brookings. A FRANKLIN?S GULL was
seen September 6 near Reedsport. A COMMON TERN was at seaside September 9.

Large numbers of birds are still being reported at Smith/Bybee Lakes. During
the week 530 WHITE PELICANS, 135 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and a COMMON TERN were
seen there. On September 6 two WHIMBRELS were at Broughton Beach near the
Portland Airport. Large numbers of birds are also being reported at Fern
Ridge Reservoir, with a BLACK TURNSTONE, COMMON TERN, SOLITARY SANDPIPER,
seven MARBLED GODWITS, and a STILT SANDPIPER there during the week.

A SABINE?S GULL was seen September 7 at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend. At
Malheur NWR Headquarters September 9 was a PURPLE MARTIN and a STILT
SANDPIPER.
