Cheryl and I took a little evening drive in northeast Douglas County tonight. Mostly usual supects, but the oddity was a Ruffed Grouse in the brushy gulch that runs along Pendell Road aout 2 miles west of Smith Lake Road.

Not a rare bird, but fairly odd for this part of Douglas Co. Saw one in the same spot summer 2011, so wonder if it might be a self sustaining population - the habitat is looks ideal but it isn't a very big patch.
