Hi Tweeters,

The Vernita Bridge carries SR 24 across the Columbia River 40 miles east of
Yakima. Salmon are running up the river, which has attracted many
fisherman. There were more boats in the river north of the bridge yesterday
than I have ever seen. There is a boat launch on th east side of the river
on the north side of the bridge. People are cleaning their catch and
throwing the carcasses on the river bank, which is attracting gulls. There
were over 100 gulls there yesterday, mostly Ring-billed and California but
also two adult Glaucous-winged and one hybrid. This should continue until
the end of the salmon run. It should be a good place to look for rarities.

Konanee salmon are spawning at the west end of Rimrock Lake along SR 12
west of Naches. There were over 100 gulls there yesterday - Ring-billed,
California and one adult Sabine's, plus the Parasitic Jaeger. Gull
diversity should increase as fall progresses.

We eastsiders are getting our turn at having fun with gulls!
