I'm on board for that...nearly every one of Jeff's posts triggers a similar
memory; irreverent, humorous, educational, may I say "folksy charm"? All of
those things appeal to me as a writer myself. I loved the one about the
nature journal; how many young people actually track what they see at that
age? It's hard enough to get adults to do so, though the ones who do are
greatly appreciated too: Connie, Rob, Michael, Barbara, and several
others...I'll get myself in hot water over names forgotten.

Even my dad used to keep a near-daily list of birds seen on their property
outside Olympia in his 1/2 mile round-trip walks to the mailbox and back.
After the mailbox was moved closer, he added the stroll around the paths on
their 15 acres, noting the pileated's nest hole, the wood ducks on the
pond, and the grosbeaks on the platform feeder (he once offered me a pair
of grosbeaks if I would give him a pair of northern mockingbirds from my
SoCal yard).

Meanwhile, at least we have e-bird.
