Birders are always welcome at my place to watch for mountain quail. I only ask that if you want to visit my yard you contact me either off-line or via Tweeters before coming out. If you are just birding the subdivision please remember that other than in the State land (logged gravel area on Hurd Rd north of Belfair View Rd) is privately owned. Hurd Rd does noi connect with the Belfair-Tahuya Rd from our subdivision (Belfair View Estates).

Google Earth has good maps of the area but GPS insists on ignoring the fact that Bear Ridge Rd (where I live) is divided in two and the north half (where I live) is accessible only from Kenosha Pass. If you do want to come out I can send detailed instructions how to get here without ending up in the middle of nowhere (just down the road from where I live).

I keep records of daily visits of the mountain quail to my yard so I can give you best times to visit. I've been keeping records for a decade now and can pretty well predict when they will be here. The weather of course dictates the quails' behaviour so my predictions are not guaranteed.

Blacksmith-Tahuya Rd is always good for general birding as well as finding mountain quail if you are planning a route that does not include Belfair View Estates. But, chances of finding quail are much better in my yard. Besides, where else can you bird from the comfort of a soft chair and forced air heating????

Hoping to see you and the quail soon.
