Subject: [Tweeters] High speed Osprey Nest

My parents live near there.? One of my local osprey nests is located in the center field light stand of a softball field in the Meadowdale softball complex in Lynnwood.? The complex sees heavy use in the summer, but the osprey return there every year despite the bright lights and softball games being played below them.

There is an osprey nest located in the middle of the BNSF railroad's Delta Yard in Everett. Maybe the osprey have learned that nests built in the middle of human activity are unlikely to attract predators.

Among the interesting places hosting Osprey nests is a very tall light pole tucked in the partially wooded interchange complex of Interstate 205 and Washington Hwy 14 in Vancouver.? The nest is in the NE quadrant of the interchange about 1/4 mile from where the two highways cross.? There is NO safe place on the freeways to observe the nest (you need to be a passenger in a car to see it) but there may be place in the neighborhood just to the north of Hwy 14 and East of Hwy 205.? There have been birds on the nest for at least 2 weeks now.? I don't know how the birds tolerate the very bright lights illuminating the interchange shining directly beneath them and all around them, but they do.

Good freeway birding!
