Susan and I drove up Highway 14 as far as the Dalles Mountain Road in Klickitat County today. TURKEY VULTURES and OSPREY are back in force with many of the Osprey already occupying nests. At Skamania Landing, in Skamania County, we had VIOLET-GREEN, TREE, NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED, CLIFF and BARN SWALLOWS, but no Purple Martins yet despite their return to the Steigerwald Lake NWR, in Clark County yesterday. Near the top of the Dalles Mountain Road we had dozens of Audubon's YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE and a WESTERN KINGBIRD. I love this time of the year when migration holds such promise of good birding days. Wilson Cady
