Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 1. If you anything to add call Harry Nehls at

During the morning of April 25 a bright Rustic Bunting was seen and
photographed on Mt. Tabor in Portland. It was not relocated. A male Hooded
Oriole was photographed April 17 in Tualatin. A probable pair of Blue
Grosbeaks were seen April 27 in Grants Pass. On April 30 a Hawaiian Petrel
was photographed off Curry County.

Heavy migrations during the week brought most of the flycatcher species and
several reports of Calliope Hummingbirds and early Swainson?s Thrushes west
of the Cascades. Very heavy movements of White-fronted Geese were reported
during the week through Western Oregon with a peak on April 28. Shorebird
movements are still a bit slow along the coast, but a good movement of
Caspian Terns
Was reported during the week. Tufted puffins are now returning to their
nesting rocks.

On April 26 a Lapland Longspur was at the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay. A
Mountain Bluebird and a Western Kingbird were at the Nestucca Bay NWR April
28. On April 26 a Black-necked Stilt was at the Tualatin River NWR. A flock
of probable Whimbrels passed over Independence April 30. A Caspian Tern was
at Baskett Slough NWR April 30. A Sabine?s Gull was seen April 24 at Finley
NWR. A pair of territorial Great-tailed Grackles were reported during the
week at the Denman Wildlife Management Area near Medford.

A Marbled Godwit was at the mouth of Hood River April 30. Also on April 30 a
Band-tailed Pigeon was in Bend. On April 30 a Red Knot and five Short-billed
Dowitchers were among flocks of shorebirds along Township Road south of
Klamath Falls. An American Golden-Plover was photographed April 26 near
Alicel north of LaGrande. That day a Red-breasted Merganser was on Wallowa
Lake.
