Beautiful August day, cool, almost chilly morning but even after the clouds burned off, it never got warm. Lots of young birds about?today?s bonanza was Bewick?s Wren. You could not be anywhere in the park without hearing a Bewick?s calling. Other notables:

Great Blue Heron - normally we see only 1, maybe 2; today, there must have been 6 or more, flying around, in and out of the park
Osprey - carrying a 2 meter long stick; what for?
Cooper?s Hawk - at least 3; one female was giving the key-kek call repeatedly for many minutes; was it near a nest? http://youtu.be/rUNd0TKAJzk
Bald Eagle - carrying prey, what looks like a California Gull: http://youtu.be/w4x6QBcSHKM
Virginia Rail - squeaking from wetlands
Caspian Tern - 2 over lake

Barn Owl - young (2?) still hanging around community center, shrieking and kleaking
Pileated Woodpecker - calling from uplands; first of year
Cedar Waxwing - several; one was gathering nesting material, in fact, it looked like it was pulling fluff from an existing nest
Wilson?s Warbler - 2 in Central Meadow
Western Tanager - a male priddicking from the south end; a female (or non-adult male) in Kingfisher Basin
