you will note the column is over ten years old. thus the issue has been
around for a long time. it is not susceptible of a yes or no answer, at
least in its broad form. some nuanced queries, e.g., is it a good idea to
provide bird food to wild birds during times of severe cold, *might* be
answerable, but the broad question you pose probably is not.
