Hello Tweets,
Sunday afternoon I saw a group of six GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE at Coulon Park in Renton. They were on the grassy area near the Ivar's Christmas decorations. The park is a haven for wintering gulls and although I did not find any rarities, over 30 MEW GULLS, 35 CALIFORNIA GULLS, three RING-BILLED GULLS along with numerous GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULLS were present. Grebes also like this part of Lake Washington. HORNED GREBES numbered 16, WESTERN GREBES 25 and a single PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen. Ducks present included the resident 75 Mallards (including numerous hybrids of various stripes) joined by a group of 33 COMMON MERGANSERS, seven LESSER SCAUP, four BUFFLEHEAD and three GADWALL. Land birds included a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, two YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and 10 very active AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES among them. 33 species in all were seen.
Good birding,
