The Everett-Marysville CBC seeks an experienced birder or two to bird Steamboat and Ebey sloughs with experienced kayakers. The general route is launching close to Marysville and heading southward all the way to the north end of Ebey Island. This area is surprisingly remote and interesting, and there is an uninhabited island just north of Ebey, Otter Island, that is entirely forested with stunted Sitka Spruce. A passageway through the middle sometimes allows inner access. The kayakers are very experienced (the North Sound Sea Kayakers Association) and have all the equipment, yet need an experienced birder or two to make the trip a success. Last year's effort was highly successful and the teams had a blast. There were two teams, including 12 kayakers, that found 54 species. The area holds the possibility of detecting some of the less-common herons, raptors and ducks, so please contact me if this is of interest.
