Subject: [Tweeters] Winter sparrows at Yakima's Poppoff sparrow patch

Last Thursday afternoon I cleaned up the Poppoff sparrow patch and washed out the seed can, then restocked it with seed I'd hauled in using a baby jogger. Still standing in the patch and repacking my seed hauler, two White-throated Sparrows came in to feed, undaunted by me or our dog Nori. I went back today to see if I could relocate them. They both were there, and they were joined by a first winter Harris's Sparrow. After my wife Mary joined me, we saw The HASP chase one of the WTSP. Both returned to feed.

I'll post some identification photos on my website at www.kevinslucas.com in the Yakima Birds gallery.
This sparrow patch is along the Greenway Path, just north of the Poppoff Path. Opposite the patch there's a 12" x 12" x 18" high concrete 1/4 marker on the west side of the Greenway. It's a short walk in from the parking area east of the I-82 Valley Mall Blvd exit. Yakima Audubon pays for the seed.

(This is more appropriate for BirdYak, but Denny blocks my posts there.)

Good birding,
