My son and I saw a phalarope scouting around in the parking lot of our motel in Yachats; I'm inclined to say red-necked, but my Peterson's just throws up its metaphorical hands at winter ranges for phalaropes. What did we likely see? I've never seen one that wasn't either flying or swimming, so it was a peculiar thing to see it wobbling around in the parking lot! Eating worms or something, I suppose. Cheers (from a vacation in Yachats), Josh Hayes
