Roger and Tweeters,

I?m not sure if you have had much response yet but you might to take a look at the US Fish and Wildlife Service?s Feather Atlas. It is was set up for just this sort of inquiry. This is a great site I use fairly often. If you are not familiar with it check it out at: http://www.fws.gov/lab/featheratlas/

I have uploaded several photos to a flickr account and am looking for help with identification. The photos are shot 3 different backgrounds to assist with the colors of the feather. Also the one of the feather in my hand is to give reference to size. It is about 4" long.

The account page is https://www.flickr.com/photos/129494707 at N02/ I have narrowed it down to 1 of 3 species. It is definately a nightjar. Found in New Mexico in mid November. If anyone has any ideas please respond off line.
