Subject: [Tweeters] RFI: Anna's Hummingbirds and Reifel

I have two separate requests for information. If you have any information to share, you can reply off list.

The first is in reference to the nesting habits in our area of Anna's Hummingbirds. I have hummingbirds who are spending a great deal of time in a tangle of forsythia, rhododendron, pyracantha, and ivy. I am trying hard to eliminate the ivy and prune the pyracantha and forsythia. If I prune no higher than five feet, will I not disturb the hummingbirds or do they nest lower than that? Reference books state they nest 6 feet and higher but that may not pertain to our area.

My second request is for any recommendations for accommodations for a trip to Reifel bird sanctuary. I prefer to overnight it rather than drive up from and back to Olympia. Recommendations for either side of the border would be welcome. (I see lots of hotels for near the airport but I would prefer to avoid the airport hotels.)

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
