Wendy and I lucked out today around noon, finding the Snohomish-Monroe
Gyrfalcon flying into a tree to the NW of the big white house, perching,
preening its' tailfeathers, and flying out to the east. Unsatisfactory
views, but valid in our minds. We went to lunch at "Jakes" in
Snohomish--great burgers and a mountain of fries--then returned to the
127th and Old Snohomish Monroe Road location, hoping for a better look.
After a half hour we gave up and headed for Boe Road near Stanwood. We
found two Kestrels along the way and enjoyed watching Short-eared Owls
flitting around at close range and posing on stumps. Just before dusk a
Prairie Falcon flew by 50 feet away. It was almost dark when we cruised
through Stanwood, hoping for a Merlin and a four falcon day, but our luck
had run out..
