The south Snohomish County (Edmonds) CBC, sponsored by the
Pilchuck Audubon Society, was held on Dec 21, 2013. A record 133 field and home birders counted
47,685 birds in 121 species. In looking at the raw data, the numbers of 30
species either exceeded or tied the 29-year high count, and a historic low
count was noted for the Western Grebe.
Statistically, the numbers of 57 species were greater than one standard
deviation above the 29-year mean, and only the Northern Harrier fell to less
than one standard deviation below the mean. A more complete discussion of the CBC results, including the results by area and a listing of participants, can be found at:http://pilchuckaudubon.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=page&pageid=371
The assistance of Rick Taylor in cleaning up the historical records and completing the trend analysis is much appreciated. And, thanks to all who participated in making this a successful effort. We look forward to your continued participation during the 2014 CBC, to be held on Dec 20.
