Tweeters,

Tina and I enjoyed the sunshine this weekend after the morning fog burned off. Saturday we hit Eide Road, Big Ditch, Norman Road, and Portage Creek. We didn't find anything unusual; but, really enjoyed the mild sunny weather.

Today we hit Crescent Lake WMA, and the old Monroe Prison Farm Pond. We had a sparrow fest at Crescent Lake seeing all four Zonotrichia species in that one hot-spot. We had 4 White-Throated Sparrows in a flock of White-Crowned and Golden-Crowned Sparrows in the center tree-line. We and several others saw the Harris's Sparrow across from the intersection of Tulaco Rd and Tulaco Loop Road near the entrance to the DFW parking lot. We also had a Lincoln Sparrow and a Swamp Sparrow in the north west corner of the WMA. There was a single Slate-colored Dark-eyed Junco in with a large flock of Oregon's just to the right of the causeway. I think that this is the best winter sparrow patch in the county.

There was nice selection of waterfowl including a single real Canvasback in the old Monroe Prison Farm Pond -- maybe all of those unretrieved decoys worked... In the farm fields behind the dairy farm there was a nice flock of Trumpeter Swans with a handful of Tundra's. We pulled two Eurasian Wigeon out of the large flock of American Wigeon in the field puddles.

The best sighting of the day was a flock of 11 Seahawks taking down the Denver Donkeys.

Good Birding!

Rick
