Clare, Tweeters,

eBird implemented some new functionality that answers this type of question. Under Explore Data, they added a option to Explore a Location. It brings up a wealth of up-to-the minute information. Below is the link for Santa Barbara. Scroll down and on the right side you will see the hot spots in descending order by number of species seen. Click on any of the hot-spots to get seasonal abundance graphs and to see what others have seen lately. Included is a link to Google Maps for directions to the hotspot. It is pretty cool and very useful for planning trips.
