In my earlier post I said that I had seen at least
3 and possibly 4 Golden Eagles at or near
Conconully. I saw one Eagle coming into
Conconully in flight that was clearly a Golden and
also saw one on the way out at a spot perhaps a
mile away from the original sighting - again
clearly a Golden - actually flew quite close which
was a treat. No way for me to know if it was the
same bird as the earlier one, so maybe one or
two. The others were seen feeding on a carcass in
the middle of the lake. I took three very hazy
pictures through the snow and just now looked at
them. Two are back only and not very useful, but
the other is a profile shot and even at the
distance the very large bill convinces me that
these two birds were immature Bald Eagles. And
now the record is straight - one Golden and
possibly two and two Bald.

Also a bit more info on the Sharp Tailed Grouse.
The two birds were in a tree (Water Birch) about
300 yards north of the sign marker overlooking the
Foster Creek drainage in the Wells Unit (sign on
the west of road). The next day I ran into Dan
Peterson who manages that unit at exactly the same
spot. There were no birds present then (around
3:00 PM) but Dan said that the odds were much
better early in the morning or later pre-dusk and
that they had been seen right there fairly
frequently recently. He said that once the snow
came people were seeing the Grouse.
