Today 21 of us enjoyed a gusty walk at Nisqually. At least it was dry. We had a 6.6 low tide at 10:57 so lots of mud in the reclamation area.

We had lots of waterfowl and raptors but little passerine activity. We saw several species, just not many of any species except GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS.

After a couple of lean weeks on sparrows we saw many today. GOLDEN-CROWNED were the most numerous, followed by SONG SPARROWS, SPOTTED TOWHEES and then FOX SPARROWS.

We did see CHICKADEES and WRENS, but not many of either. I saw a couple of each type KINGLET and a couple of BEWICK'S WREN and lots of ROBIN but not much else in the passerine family.

We did see both HAIRY and DOWNEY WOODPECKER just out front of the visitor center and an intergrade NORTHERN FLICKER next to the parking lot but no other woodpeckers were seen.

We saw several NORTHERN HARRIER and RED-TAILED HAWKS, and a few BALD EAGLES. The EAGLE numbers were way down from recent weeks. For the second week in a row we dipped on the PEREGRINE FALCON and NORTHERN SHRIKE. Seem early for them to be gone.

We did see an adult GREAT-HORNED OWL near the nest tree and 3 OWLETS in the nest hole. Didn't see the other adult owl but it had to be near by,

For the day I had 43 species with nothing new for the year. I didn't see any mammals today except birders.
