Any old mastodon tusks in there?
I'd say "We've come a long way, baby", but I'm thinkin' "We still got a long way to go"...
'Gull'y gee, though, lots more bird species today, so should we just say "Hooray"?
"Eye-opening" is right and I agree, a documentary would be fascinating and instructive as well.
But it should include a peek at the future possibilities in another 50 years (both positive and not-so). I think the main revelation this brings to my mind is how little we can actually predict the effect of things we do, over time, even with all of our technological and intellectual 'progress' - some examples: Hanford, the effects of population growth, pollution, cell phones, social media.
No, this most certainly is not all about birds, but definitely gives one pause to reflect on the general state of our world as well as "the Fill". I hope a few new inspirations will take flight, from us and others seeing this historical reminder of dumping days at the now "Union Bay Natural Area". This is a sobering reminder that we humans have a great capacity to both ruin as well as improve, the place on which we live and share with other species.
Thanks for digging this up and posting it, Al.
