hi all ... Gene and I drove over to Lyle today to see if we could find any
Acorn Woodpeckers ... we stopped at every spot anyone recommended, walked
around, sat and had lunch, and repeated every spot a second time ... spent
three hours just looking for Acorn Woodpeckers ... nope, none to be seen
... however Lewis's Woodpeckers were IN ABUNDANCE !!!! ... had at least 10
individuals between the Cemetery, Tuthill Road, Balch Road, and on down to
Balch Lake ... it was nice to see so many ...

lots of Robins and Western Scrub-Jays hanging around too ...

other "highlights" were a Cooper's Hawk in the area where the AW's granary
tree was/should be (we never could ID it if it was there) ... and we had
calling Wood Ducks on Balch Lake which I'd never heard one before (wierd
sound) ... and Gene saw two somethings which were hawk size and had white
wing patches ... have no idea what he saw as they were gone by the time I
got to where he was ... a mystery bird !!! (grin) ...

again, my thanks to all who send me information, locations, and maps as to
where to find Acorn Woodpeckers ... we hit them all ... just no birds ...

we're going to try again later next month ... perhaps when the sun is out
and the wind isn't blowing off the Cascade Range snow field (grin) ...
