I had a similar weird wren up here in Bellingham, back in the early 1990s. While I was attending WWU, An unusual wren was hopping around on the bare sidewalk of a covered walkway. The campus was otherwise under a fresh heavy layer of snow. It didn't look like the usual wrens seen around here; Winter, Bewick's or House wrens. It was larger and grayer than a usual Winter Wren, but didn't look like a House Wren. I finally relegated it to be an interior BC subspecies of Winter Wren that came down the Fraser Valley. But I'm sure I was wrong.

Hello,
We had a wren this afternoon at the Eide Road WDFW area that appeared to be a House Wren. I only hesitate because it is January. It was overall drab grayish brown, with barring on the wings and tail, unmarked buffy flanks, and a faint eyebrow. It gave a few loud squeaky whistles to announce its arrival but was otherwise pretty quiet. It did not look like any of the wrens that winter in Washington.
