Hello,

Two weeks ago, I attempted a "Big Day" in Pend Oreille County. It was a
dismal day fighting the fog and overall "birdlessness" that seemed to be
evident everywhere I went. So today, I went back into PO, but with no
intent to do a Big Day. I didn't even pull out of my driveway till 7:30,
nearly mid day. But it turned out to be quite an enjoyable day with 55
species tallied. I was blessed to get to run into Matthew Moswik in Cusick,
who tiipped me off about a ROSS'S GOOSE that he found at Flying Goose
Ranch. Another highlight of the day was seven N Pygmy Owls. Here is a
summary of the day:

Allen Rd - Ruffed Grouse (3), Great Horned Owl, N Pygmy Owl

Calispell Lake - ROUGH LEGGED HAWK, Pileated Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker,
White breasted Nuthatch (2), Pygmy Nuthatch, Brown Creeper, N Pygmy Owl
(2), SNOW BUNTINGS (15 - code 5)

Tacoma Creek Rd: N Pygmy Owl, Gray Jay

Cusick Meadows: N Pygmy Owl

Cusick: BEWICK'S WREN (its amazing how difficult it is to find Bewick's
Wren in PO. I dedicate this bird to my friend Tom Mansfield, He will know
why. Bird seen about 50 feet north of intersection of Sacheen and Calispel
Ave in a brushy ravine. Pygmy Nuthatches present as well).

Cusick Waterfront: BARROW'S GOLDENEYE (uncommon), HORNED GREBE (rare,
especially winter)

Kalispell Indian Reservation (Tribal Hdqts Dike Rd): Aythya Flock of Ducks
including Lesser Scaup (150), GREATER SCAUP (10), Ring necked Duck (30),
Redhead (25), Canvasback (2); N Pygmy Owl; BOHEMIAN WAXWING (18)

Kalispell Indian Reservation (Flying Goose Ranch): ROSS'S GOOSE (code 5);
BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, adult GOLDEN EAGLE. Northern Shrike, MARSH WREN (rare
winter)

Davis Lake: N Pygmy Owl.

Blessings
