Dear Tweeters,
I had a quick, pre-Seahawks bird up the Umtanum Canyon (Kittitas County) from the suspension bridge (in the Yakima Canyon) this morning (1/19). The hike wasn?t particularly birdy, but had some great highlights including ~20 Bohemian Waxwings feasting on apples, a Northern Shrike, a Great Horned Owl, and a leucistic Black-capped Chickadee. Other more typical birds included Bald Eagle, Bewick?s Wren, and Downy Woodpecker. There is currently no snow in the canyon, and there?s only a about 2 weeks before the middle section of the canyon is closed until July for various breeding season reasons.
Cheers,
