I love Redheads ... speaking of ducks of course.
Usually it is off to Eastern Washington to find
them, so when Kelly McAllister posted about a
large flock at the relatively close-by Weyerhauser
Corporate Headquarters Pond and I was "sort of "
in the area today, I had to go see. Sure enough a
large number of Redheads are easy to find, see,
photograph and enjoy at that location. I counted
at least 65 but there may have been as many as
70...a mix of drakes and hens. Gorgeous
cooperative birds.

Also at the pond and/or at the nearby North Lake I
found the following ducks: American and Eurasian
Wigeon, Mallards, Gadwall, Hooded Merganser, Ring
Necked Ducks, Ruddy Ducks (2 at Weyerhauser),
Green Winged Teal, Buffleheads and Common Goldeneye.

On the way back to Edmonds, I visited Foster
Island and in addition to many of those species I
also found Common Merganser, Northern Pintail,
Canvasbacks, Shoveler, Greater Scaup and Wood Ducks.

Finally along the Edmonds waterfront were Red
Breasted Merganser, Surf and Black Scoters (tried
to find White Winged without success) and a few
Barrow's Goldeneyes.

So 21 duck species in a fun afternoon ... and did
not have to go to Eastern Washington after all...
