Hi Tweeters,
WDFW is looking for collared cacklers in WA. If you see these (and there are some neck banded ones in King Co. currently - and I am sure quite a few elsewhere) - we'd appreciate you send reports along. You can submit direct neck band reports to our Waterfowl Specialist, Erin Wehland. Erin.Wehland at dfw.wa.gov.
Also, please do submit any bands found on birds (dead or alive) either standard metal leg or special auxiliary bands to the USGS Bird Banding Lab (you get a cool little certificate!!!!).
Don't forget - we have swans neck-banded out there too! Much appreciated :)
We have some color-banded summer resident Common Loons as well.
If you see these puddle hopping here in spring; March/April/May or again in August/Sept/October on their way to the salt - email me. Or, if you find a resident bird or pair set up on a lake during the summer, generally late April through August/early September....I'd jump up and down with joy to hear from you about it! We only have 17 known breeding pairs in the state!!!! Hoping to see an increase over time. Your help IS APPRECIATED!
