Hi Tweets.we spent 3 days in the Methow for skate skiing and a little birding.
Highlites were : about 1 mile up twin lakes rd.(1mile east of Winthrop , left off hwy 20
Going west) at a house on left named yellow cat there were well over 50
Bohemian waxwings in an apple tree with fruit on it and atop some taller trees behind.
Some starlings mixed in.
About 1/4 mile north of the Pearrygin Lake turnoff on the east chewuck road north of
Winthrop was a large mixed flock including about 24 Red crossbills,all three nuthatches,
BC chickadees and a downy woodpecker. They were chased by an adult Cooper's hawk .
At the suspension walk bridge just east of downtown Winthrop and at the parking lot by the red barn , we sighted 2-3 American Dippers.
There were lots of ravens, b&b magpies and bald eagles, a possible golden along hiway. 97.

The confluence of the Methow and Columbia rivers was mostly unfrozen.So, lots of ducks
Incl. many ring necks , a dozen canvasbacks, 1 male hooded merganser along with the more common spp. Also a common loon.
A few fun sightings and not all trails are open but some nice skiing there &
Mazama.
