On the way up to Vancouver today, I stopped by Wiser Lake which is northeast of Bellingham. When I got there it was around 8 a.m. and the lake was covered with waterfowl including at least 800 Trumpeter Swans and maybe over 1000. Awesome fantastic and unexpected. Also many hundreds of ducks...mostly Mallards, Pintail and Wigeon but also Canvasbacks, Buffleheads, some Scaup, Common and Hooded Mergansers, a few Ruddy Ducks and at least a couple of Redheads. There were also a good number of Cackling Geese and a single Greater White Fronted Goose. Truly an awesome array and display.
I then birder the area and in any places saw groups of Trumpeters fly in. Also had two small groups of Siskins...FOY. When I returned to the lake around 9:40 many of the ducks were gone and there was not a single swan. Definitely a story there.
