hello everyone,

i wrote a piece about a video that has been getting some discussion on the
interwebs. the video features something that many birders are familiar
with: a "halfsider" bird (a budgerigar, in this case):

http://www.theguardian.com/science/grrlscientist/2014/jan/31/grrlscientist-halfsider-chimera-bilateral-gynandromorph-birds

in my piece, i discuss the genetic and developmental events that give rise
to these strange birds, and of course, i also mention other animals that
show this "halfsider" phenomenon -- including humans.

cheers,
