Hi Tweets:
I heard and viewed some of our local Cooper's Hawk (COHA) family in Des Moines Creek Park today 11:30am to 1:30pm. There are 3 fledglings now. They may have fledged in the past few days. They are flying about near a stick nest. Sometimes they call their very loud piercing PEeer or SEEer. I think this is their begging call. All 3 fledglings have eyes that are dark-colored. I could see that at least two of them have slate-gray colored eyes. I didn't see the adults today, but they have been active in the neighborhood.
I also heard one or two calling Western Tanagers in the park by the footbridge. I haven't been birding much locally, and was surprised to hear them here.
If you are interested in the location of the COHA's, send me an email.
Yours, Carol Schulz
Des Moines
