Sorry for the late report. I have been very busy with work, guiding, and with my newly, married status so priorities have shifted somewhat---but, in a good way!?
?
We had a fun, productive trip during the 4th of July weekend and saw some fun owls, fancy chickens, woodpeckers, and passerines. ?I love the challenges of finding high elevation bird species, owls, grouse, and woodpeckers. We did surprisingly well despite the warm weather and the massive crowds (especially at some of the major campgrounds and Hee-Haw Chesaw rodeo). ?

There were many highlights but seeing families of Grasshopper sparrows, Rock Wrens, Western and Eastern Kingbirds was really cool and fun. ?As dusk approached, the ethereal songs from the Veeries and Hermit Thrushes was surreal near Conconully, WA. ?We also enjoyed the brightly colored, Nashville Warblers singing in the extensive burned areas of the Okanogan forest (6,000 feet or higher) making the austere scenery come alive with their sweet songs. ?We were also lucky to have great looks Flammulated Owls (such a ventriloquist) and a Great Gray hunting at eye level about 10 feet from our car at dusk. ??
I know most of you associate me as the fancy chicken man, but I must Khanhfess, I love hooters, too. The fancy, forest chickens were my last groups of birds that I learned about it and it took me a bit of time to be successful at pinning them down to enjoy them. ?So, this recent batch of photos, display more species of owls.?

Boreal Chickadee (several cooperative birds above Salmon Meadows and a nest found)

Canyon Wren (a very cooperative bird near Scotch Creek Wildlife area)
