Hi, Henry,

I presume they must be using former woodpecker nest cavities to nest in.
The ones near Tenino and Bucoda seem to prefer utility poles with woodpecker
cavities - maybe a big woodpecker like a flicker.

Subject: [Tweeters] Centralia Purple Martins

Hi, Tweeters,

I was taking a walk near Pacific Avenue in Centralia and decided to explore
a logging road. After a bit of walking I came to a big logged area, and
flying all around were about fourteen or so Purple Martins. I've never seen
these birds anywhere besides in nest boxes by open water.
If you want to look for them, contact me off list for specifics. Have a good
day!
