Sorry to report that after coming home last evening, I noticed some fluff a bit out of place. Looks like it was plucked up on the edge - when it's normally nice and compact. I was hoping she'd just been bringing more in. But have not seen the female on the nest since. I had just been thinking it would be time for the eggs to hatch. Maybe they just had. I'd seen chickadees near the nest which she fiercely fended off. It may just have been that since it doesn't look like it was totally destroyed. Some bird had steak and eggs for dinner last nite. :((( Very sad to see. I am thankful to have been able to observe the first nest to full fledge and get photos of them. Was really looking forward to it all over again. It's just amazing to me that as well hidden (I guess we could see it though) as the nest was and it's "tininess" that it would not easily be found. At least she had one successful brood.

Guess we still can enjoy all the hummers feeding now - including a couple of Rufous and not sure how many Anna's. We did also have a family of Chestnut-backed Chickadees in the tree off the deck. One snoozed on a branch and one came in to sit on the back of a chair right in front of me. Couldn't even get the camera focused to get a shot. Looked like a tiny penguin! Not sure where the nest is.
