Hello All!
I was on a walk under the morning fog in the quarry off Cooper Pt. Rd. this
morning, enjoying the vigorous singing of many of the usuals. We
encountered many Willow Flycatchers, many Black-headed Grosbeaks, American
Goldfinches, American Robins, Savannah, Song and White-crowned Sparrows,
Common Yellowthroats, Bewick's Wrens, Swainson's Thrushes, Killdeer and
many more. Walking along the forests edge we eventually came to a place of
great activity where the hillside was covered in Scotch Broom, young Firs
and Alders and other weeds. Here we heard the song of the Chat, which we
eventually tracked down. There may have been two but the acoustics of the
area combined with the character of the Chat's song made it very hard to
tell if there were multiple individuals. We also saw two female Lazuli
Buntings and heard a male singing not too far off, as well as Olive-sided
Flycatcher, a less common bird for the Olympia area, and California Quail.
A great morning for Olympia local birding I say!
