Things are quiet around Edmonds, with most activity being the growth
of fluffballs. However, yesterday two Blue-winged Teal drakes showed
up in the marsh and are still being seen today. It is a peekaboo game
to find them as they are frequently out of sight. It is unusual for
them to stay more than one day. We have this species listed as a code
3 but discussed today revising it to code 4 because they are not seen
every year. The last sighting was one bird on May 25, 2012. Prior to
that it had been maybe four years since a sighting. You can see a
photo of these birds at my ebird checklist: http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S18685655
. Our other recent sighting has been Vaux's Swifts. There was one over
the marsh last evening among the swallows and three this morning. We
are up to 151 species for the year.
